1. What is a correct posture?

In terms of a correct posture for the front, both heights have to be the same, which means that height for both eyes, both ears, both lip, both shoulders, both elbows, both pelvis, both knees, and both ankles should be the same, and also the length of both hands need to be identical.

For a right posture from the side, our body should be paralleled to a straight line, which means back of ears, center of cervical spine, center of shoulders, center of pelvis, center of hip joints, center of knees and front of ankles have to be paralleled to a straight line.

2. Body Corrections for each Sasang Constitution Type

1) Taeyangin (The Great Yang person )

People of this type likes being aggressive, heroic and demagogic. Its body type has a strongly developed head and a neck with a relatively weak waistline which hinders the person from standing or walking for a long time. In terms of the face shape, it has luster in the eyes to overwhelm others and the overall face looks big and strong.

2) Soyangin (The Lesser Yang person )

People of this type are broad-minded, shrewd and artistic. Its body type has big and wide chests and shoulders with relatively small hips, which make one’s overall shape as an inverted triangle. It tends to have a weak waist, and while walking, one looks moving very fast but the upper body is swaying with no stability. Regarding the face shape, it is also an inverted-triangle-look with a wide or projected forehead, pointed jaws, sharp eyes and thin lips. This type needs to avoid to have swollen upper body or obesity and needs to strengthen its lower body. In order to strengthen its lower body, jogging, running and cycling are helpful. And abdominal breathing, yoga and music listening are also recommended.

3) Taeeumin (The Greater Yin person)

People of Teeumin are patient and have good appetites. The body is humid and unstably circulated with a thick waistline and a thin neck, but its overall body looks grand, and there are many obese people with heavy bones in this type. Taeeumin has a round face in general, and its facial line is distinct with big and vivid features, such as big eyes, thick lips, rough skins and big pores. By doing continuous exercise and physical exercise for the entire body, it is necessary to help circulation of vigor and blood and keep the balance of body.

4) Soeumin (The Lesser Yin person )

This type is very attentive, accurate and polite. Its body is cold with big hips and narrow and weak chests. The body shape is generally small and skinny, but there are some tall people, too. Soeumin has weak digestion, and cannot eat so much. Features on this typed person’s face are small and tidy, looking so accurate to make no mistake at all, and especially, there are many oriental-looking beauties in the type. Rather than doing extreme physical sports, light exercises such as gymnastic, yoga and rope skipping are recommendable.

3. Correct Postures prevent all kinds of diseases

Right postures affect circulation of the whole body. By placing a head properly, it makes a balance between circulation of brain and skull. Accurate postures of chest help circulation of internal organs and prevent cancer or incurable diseases. But if spine is not proper, nerves cannot be delivered and it also affects the automatic nerve system. Therefore, accurate postures help all kinds of incurable diseases to be recovered by making a good circulation of vigor and blood.

4. Relations between Jaw Joints (TMJ) Disease and Spine

Getting extremely strained or stressed, jaw joints and sides of head are strained and lift jaw bone to upper position, making a gap between jaw joints narrower. This brings pains, headache, migraine and insomnia, therefore, reliving muscles around jaw joints is necessary to reduce pains and straighten the body shape.

5. Scoliosis and Body shapes

Scoliosis shows an S- or C-shaped spine when viewed from the back, and doesn’t have too many pains but has a sway body, bringing unbalance of heights for shoulders, pelvis, breasts and waists. In order to prevent scoliosis, one needs to have a proper posture all the time, and to treat diseases as soon as one happens, to have natural foods, to relieve stress and to live in a life with less pollution.

6. Why do people get a sway back?

1) Bad posture

When doing computers, if one makes a sway back and forwards his head, the person can have a sway back. While driving, if one leans a back of a chair to the back, a sway back can be brought.

2) Abdominal Obesity

In case of having a serious abdominal obesity or having big breasts and chests, people can get a sway back. If one has a serious abdominal obesity and his belly is forwarded to the front and spine is swayed into one side, bringing a kyphosis. If one has a kyphosis, the back can get loadosis as a compensation to make a balance of the entire body.

7. Correction for “O-shaped” and “X-shaped” legs and Body Correction

1) Relations between “O-shaped”, “X-shaped” legs and Pelvis

The reason to bring O- and X-shaped legs is complicating. When pelvis is twisted or it is forwarded to the front or to the back, or lifted upward and lowered down, the position of hip joints is changed. Additionally, it is also related with body shapes. If one is too skinny or too obese, there can be change on pelvis, affecting hip joints to make “O-shaped” and “X-shaped” legs eventually.

8. Face Dissymmetry and Spine Correction

Among people who have struggled with a cervical or a lumbar disc for a long period, there are many people who also have face dissymmetry. And also among people with face dissymmetry, there are certain cases with spinal scoliosis or with unbalanced spine. Therefore, in order to treat face dissymmetry for making a healthy face, it is necessary to control the balance of the entire body.

9. Dissymmetry of Scapular Arch

Scapular arch is attached to a main body to control balance of the upper body of human being. According to rise, down, external turn, internal turn, front inclination and back inclination, height of shoulders can be changed and it also affects cervical spine and thoracic spine. And scapular arch with dissymmetry can be an origin of pains.

10. Shoulder Blades

Shoulder blades are attached to upper back. It is a triangle shape and naturally moves whenever moving one’s arms. It is attached to occipital bone, cervical spine, thoracic spine, rib and collarbone.

11. Collarbone

Collarbone is placed on upper shoulder blades.

12. Brachium

Brachium means upper arms and is linked with shoulders. It is an organization attached to scapular arch and also linked with shoulder blades, collarbone and spine.

13. Relations between Dissymmetry of Knee joints and Postures, and its symptoms

If there is no external damage for pains on knee, constitution type has to be treated first. First of all, dissymmetry of spine can be a problem. When having a right posture and right spine, both legs are in balance and strength is distributed equally. Therefore, it doesn’t give any burden to knee joints. However, in case of having forwarded body to the front, to the back, to the left or to the right, strength is focused on certain part of joints, bringing pains on knee joints. If one has a scoliosis or dissimilar pelvis, he can feel pains either on left or right knee, and internal and external ligaments are damaged.

1) A reason of accumulated fats

Fats are accumulated on thighs, calves, chests, arms, face and neck proportion to unmoving quantity or posture of our bodies. In case of having many fats on arms legs, fats on abdomen or the main body are expanded to arms and legs, so one needs to be careful for every part.

2) Partial Obesity

Fats can be accumulated not only to the entire body but also to partial areas like pelvis, spine and upper body depending on one’s constitution type.

3) Abdominal Obesity and Pelvis

In case of having a twisted pelvis, internal organs are forwarded to the front and make one look having many fats on his belly. For the treatment of the case, it is necessary to turn one’s pelvis to a right position and shape, and if only losing weight without treating pelvis, abdominal obesity cannot be treated.

4) Straight Neck and Breast Obesity

When breaking the balance of spine, fats are accumulated up and down of spine and forwarded to the front like a wen. And also if one has a forwarded chest to the front, back is expanded and will get relatively increased fats on chest and breast. In this case, one can get abdominal obesity with sway back, showing lumbar spinal kyphosis, lumbar spinal loadosis, straight neck and turtle neck.

5) Scoliosis and Obesity

If one has a scoliosis, muscles on one part of spine are strained, and spine is shrunk inside and the adverse spine is come out to the back. If pressing the area, the part with forwarded muscles and bones are solid, and the other part shrunk inside has relatively many fats and are soft.

6) Hip Joints and Obesity

In case of having hip joints forwarded to the front or expanded to the sides, left and right sides are expanded, and in the spaces around them, fats are accumulated, looking thicker than normal and expanded to each side.

15. Body Shape Diagnosis

1) Conduct basic tests like checking up pulse, level of obesity, height and weight.

2) By using DITI (Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging), take pictures of the entire body, and analyze painful areas, coldness and fever of the body.

3) By taking X-rays for spine analysis, analyzing jaw joint, cervical spine, thoracic spine, lumbar spine, pelvis and etc.

4) Taking pictures of the front, the side, and the back of the body before starting treatment. (After the treatment, confirm the changed body shape)

5) Diagnose body temperature of the entire body by using DITI. It assumes that a certain part with a focus or pain has extremely high or low temperature, and when comparing the left and the right, there comes a difference and one of both is assumed as a place having a focus.

16. X-rays for entire spine and body shape analysis for lumbar disc

By taking x-rays of jaw joints, cervical spine, thoracic spine, lumbar spine and pelvis, it is possible to check overall balance of spine and degenerative or changed spine. This test is more necessary to treat without operations.

17. The sole of the foot Diagnosis

It is a test to check conditions of the sole of each foot. In order to treat cervical and lumbar disc, it is necessary to control dissymmetry of fallen arch and tiptoes.

18. Body Shape Analysis

It is crucial to analyze one’s condition by using DITI, pelvis analysis for body correction and checking external balance of body. For body shape analysis, one needs to take off his clothes, and both ears, shoulders, shoulder blades, elbow, pelvis need to be checked up from the front and back side, and based on a vertical line, the levels of forwarding to the front or to the back of each sides for ears, shoulders, pelvis and knees need to be calculated and the result should be compared with the balance of spine. According to each person’s body shape type, it is distinguished as Kyphosis, Loadosis, Flat back, Sway back and Military type.

19. Duration and Circulation of Body Correction Program

The first period consists of 12 time treatment, and from the next period, it consists of 6 time treatment. In the beginning, one needs to get 2 to 3 treatments per week, and symptoms are improved, treatment should be conducted every 4 to 7 days. It takes 1 month to 1.5 months for a whole program generally.

20. Methods of Body Correction

1) Constitutional Type Acupuncture

Based on constitutional types and body conditions, it is useful to conduct constitutional acupuncture and so others for treating painful and paralyzed spots.

2) Oriental Physiotherapy

In order to support circulation of vigor around painful areas, it conducts treatment using spots on the body suitable for acupuncture. It is necessary to select suitable and effective treatments followed by painful body parts, patient’s status and constitutional types.

3) Chuna Therapy

Based on the results and data from DITI and Pelvis Analysis, it conducts the best and the most suitable treatments on skull, cervical spine, thoracic spine, lumbar spine, pelvis, upper and lower legs and joints to straighten the body shape.

4) Bee-Venom Therapy

It is a natural pain-killer and a treatment to increase immunity for a case of having severe pains. It controls pains and sharp pains and relieve strained or rigid muscles softly.

5) Herb Acupuncture Therapy

This treatment is used when a patient only has light pains and fever. Based on Sasang constitutional types, it selects appropriate herb remedy which is matched with each patient’s constitutional types and symptoms.

6) Bone Straightening (Golta) Therapy

For patients’ with wrong spines and pelvis, it straightens their spines and pelvis to be on the right position. It is effective for treating duck-looking hips, straight waist, spinal kyphosis, spinal scoliosis, turtle neck, sway back, straight neck and D-shaped neck.

7) Maeseon Therapy

By using painful areas and spots on the body suitable for acupuncture, it continuously brings a similar effect of having acupuncture, which relieves stresses or strengthens weak muscles. When having this Maeseon Therapy, it has an effect of getting acupuncture for approximately six months, changing a wrong body shape and makes one keep having it afterwards.

8) Warm Heat Physiotherapy

Warm heat is delivered to deep inside of a body and relieves strained muscles. It also controls pains on spots with severe pains, and make muscles around cold or irregularly-circulated parts operate smoothly. By improving blood circulation, it enables one to have a correct body shape.

9) Shock Therapy

When circulation around joints does not properly work, foreign materials are piled, or bones are grown up, it controls the symptoms by using external stimulus. It is effective for degenerative diseases, inflammatory diseases and diseases with irregular circulation.

10) Chimdo Therapy

It controls inveterate pains by using chimdo. When having extreme waist pains and a practical waist disc, muscles and ligaments around the waist are adhered, so the therapy manages pains by relieving those muscles’ strain and adherence. It is also used for controlling pains caused from excessively used muscles or adherence by inflammation or bruise.

11) Upside down Therapy

In case of having a waist disc, expand gaps by using a patient’s own weight. It is simple but effective to turn the changed disc back to its original position.

12) Physical Exercise Therapy for Body Shape Straightening

It improves physical strength, controls balance of a body and corrects body shapes based on a patient’s body shape and level of muscle development. It is a method for controlling inveterate pains.

13) Sasang Constitutional Herb Remedy

Since each Sasangsang constitutional type has different reasons for getting a disc, diagnosis of which Sasang constitutional type the person has is the first step for this therapy.

The Lesser Yang Person has weak kidneys, waist and bones, therefore, it needs to improve kidneys and strengthens bones and joints.

The Lesser Yin Person has irregular blood and water circulation and gains weight from it, reaching to have a high probability of getting a disc. Therefore, it needs to help circulation of blood and water in the body and losing weights, while conducting the therapy.

The Lesser Yin Person has little Yang vigor and blood, so the blood circulation is not smooth and makes the body cool, reaching to a disc eventually. Hence, it is necessary to supplement Yang vigor, remove coolness, improve functions on stomach, support blood circulation, and supplement bloods to make the body warm.

The Great Yang Person has naturally weak lower body, and vigor goes to the upper body a lot. So it has a high risk of getting a disc, and needs to make vigor down and strengthens the lower body.

21. Change of body shape and confirmation of treated disc

After taking 12 time treatments, take pictures of a changed body shape and compare the disc pains by digital camera. It is assumed that 80-90% of pains of cervical disc, lumbar disc, scapulargia and arthralgia are improved. In terms of changed body shape for a long period needs 2 to 3 month treatment.

22. Duration and Circulation of Treatment

Duration of treatment varies from each person due to diagnosis, but generally it takes 1 month to 1.5 months with 12 time treatment. In case of having severe pains, 18 to 24 treatments are required. In the beginning, 3 times a week is necessary, but when symptoms are improved, 1 to 2 times a week is enough.

3) What is PRI (Postural restoration Institute)?

PRI focuses on the fact that our body is structure with dissymmetry, which means that our bodies do not have proportioned nervous system, breathing system, circulating system and muscle system. Each part has different functions and the role and location also vary. PRI regards this character of dissymmetry causes a certain pattern of our body. And the most frequent patterns are LAIC (Left anterior Interior Chain) and RBX (Right Brachial Chain).
